BREAD FROM HEAVEN. Thank you to everyone who has provided the Bread from Heaven throughout the year. During the last six months I've had the opportunity to use a variety of breads for communion. You may or may not have noticed me struggling with a few of them. Breads with hard crusts and a hard 'body' are a challenge. Breads, like Hawaiian bread for instance, with soft crusts and soft insides make it easier for me to distribute and are less messy too. If you have the time and energy, you may want to try the following recipe for unleavened bread.
Altar Bread (From The Sacraments in Religious Education and Liturgy. Religious Education Press, Birmingham, Alabama)
The following recipe makes flat loaves of bread which will not crumble, making it excellent for when intinction is desired. This bread can be scored before baking so that it can be easily broken into individual pieces.
2 ½ C whole wheat flour 1 C white flour 2 Tblsp butter or margarine 2 tsp salt 1 ½ tsp baking powder 3 Tblsp honey or molasses 1 ½ C milk 2 tsp sugar
