Thrivent Financial for Lutherans is providing two grants to Lutheran World Relief (LWR) to help support LWR's "Wave of Giving" campaign, a long-term recovery effort to rebuild lives, create livelihoods and restore dignity to millions affected by the tragic events of the Dec. 26 tsunamis in Southern Asia:
* Thrivent Financial is providing an immediate $1 million grant to LWR to aid in the most urgent needs created by this disaster.
* Thrivent Financial will match, dollar for dollar up to $2 million, individual gifts from Thrivent Financial members to LWR. (See important details about this offer below)
With member gifts, this will be a total of up to $5 million in Thrivent Financial disaster assistance.
$2 MILLION MEMBER- GIFT-MATCHING OFFER
To have gifts to the LWR "Wave of Giving" campaign matched through the $2 million member-gift-matching offer, Thrivent Financial members will need to complete a special form, available at http://www.thrivent.com/fraternal/pdf/TsunamiDisasterResponse.pdf (PDF, 122K), and send it, along with their gift, to: Lutheran World Relief, Wave of Giving Appeal, Thrivent Financial Member Gift Matching Offer, 700 Light St., Baltimore, MD 21230-3850. They should not send gifts to Thrivent Financial for Lutherans.
The matching grant deadline is APRIL 15, 2005.
Thrivent Financial members can access the form and information about the $2 million member-gift-matching offer by going to www.thrivent.com, clicking on Fraternal Programs, and clicking on the box titled "Help victims of the Tsunami." (http://www.thrivent.com/fraternal/tsunami/html). A press release about the response also in included on that site, and a "question-and-answer" link, featuring the most commonly asked question about the offer, is scheduled to be added shortly. There are matching fund forms in the church office.
