"Attention Fitness Department"

For some, this is the time of year that one starts to think about how one might look in a swimming suit. In support of that opinion we received a catalog from ProMaxima Fitness, mfg. I thumbed through it's pages only to find painful looking contraptions that looked like they were designed by Cardinal Cisneros, the head of the Spanish Inquisition. Painful, in a word. Pattye and I laughed at the way it was addressed, as if a church had a 'fitness department'.

The catalog did get me to thinking about our fitness, not our physical fitness, but our spiritual fitness. Some people work their bodies out with religious fervor, while they neglect their spiritual selves.

Do you take time each day for God? Do you pause every now and then to give thanks for your blessings, large and small? When do you join in Christian fellowship with others? What do you do with the material gifts that God has given to you?  Does the Bible in your drawer get opened on a regular basis? What kind of example are you setting for your children or grandchildren? Do you take good care of your spiritual health?

You don't have to worry about how you look in a swimming suit when you take care of your spiritual health. With God at the center of your daily routine you begin to realize that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit. You begin to treat your body as such - Holy. God's body, not just yours. So regardless of what the swimsuit season brings, make your life healthier by making God the center of your fitness regime.  It's a lot less painful than some of those machines I saw in the catalog!
